Healthy & Simple Items You Need in Your Grocery Cart

I find grocery shopping therapeutic. Strange, I know, but true. Geneseo Wegmans would have to be my #1 favorite. I worked there for seven years and I love to run into friends, past teachers, my mom 😂, community members and old coworkers. Plus, they always have everything I need for my weekly meal prep. However, I also love strolling the aisles of Trader Joe’s, Target and Costco, in that order. Part of the”thrill” of grocery shopping is finding new products that make my life a little bit easier and I wanted to share those with you! Everything below can be prepared in 20 minutes or less, has clean ingredients (nothing artificial), contains health benefits and is found at either Wegmans, Trader Joes, Costco or Target!

Trader Joe‘s Salad Dressing

I am always searching for a clean salad dressing that actually tastes good. I rotate between these three on all my salads and over veggies! So flavorful, made with superfoods & they actually taste rich!

Ingredients:

  • water, almond butter (almonds), lemon juice, ginger puree, cane sugar, garlic, sea salt, lemon zest (lemon peel, water, citric acid), ground turmeric, black pepper.

  • carrot, water, canola oil, ginger puree, white miso (soybeans, koji rice [rice, koji spores (aspergillus oryzae)], sea salt, water), rice vinegar, shallots, sea salt.

  • water, avocado, apple cider vinegar, green onions, lemon juice, chives, parsley, olive oil blend (olive oil, extra virgin olive oil), yellow onion, basil, garlic, sea salt, black pepper


Costco Veggie Burgers

A lot of “veggie” burgers are stuffed full of processed soy and preservatives. These are both made from all real ingredients and it’s an easy way to sneak more veggies into Gigi’s diet. Plus, they take less than 20 minutes in the oven & come out nice and crispy!

Ingredients: Organic Carrots, Organic Celery, Organic Onion, Organic Sweet Potato, Organic Corn, Organic Kale, Organic Tomatoes in organic tomato juice, Organic Brown Rice Flour, Organic Sunflower Seeds, Organic Soybean Oil, Organic Oats, Organic Corn Starch, Sea Salt, Organic Spice. serving.


Trader Joes Cauliflower Stir Fry

This cooks up great on the stove in just a few minutes. If I need a quick dinner, I will throw tofu or meat right in the rice for a simply healthy stovetop stir fry. The sesame oil and tamari give it just enough flavor, so you don’t even need to add sauce or seasoning. Plus, sodium is lower than many other frozen cauliflower options on the market.

Ingredients: cauliflower, green peas, red peppers, corn, water, tamari (water, soybeans, salt, spirit vinegar), spring onions, sesame oil, sugar, ginger, spirit vinegar, salt, modified cornstarch, garlic puree, xanthan gum. dried mushroom extract (maltodextrin, mushroom), white pepper.

Costco Organic Pouches (for babies!)

So these totally exist everywhere, but I love that they are organic, have both fruits and veggies and are SO much cheaper than all other stores. $12 for 24 pouches and I usually pay at least $1.50 a pouch.

Ingredients: Organic Apple, Organic Strawberry, Organic Apple Purée, Organic Yellow Carrot, Organic Blackcurrant, Ascorbic Acid (to maintain color), Organic Lemon Juice Concentrate




Costco Mixed Nut Butter

I like this nut butter because it has a blend of almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and flaxseeds. Trader Joe’s also has a beautiful selection of healthy nut butters. Just be sure the only ingredients are nuts and salt. Ingredients: almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, and flax seeds.

Trader Joe’s Cruciferous Blend

Super easy superfood side! Lots of flavors and textures from the blend of chopped veggies. I put my almond butter dressing on it and eat it almost every night.

Ingredients: kale, brussels sprouts, broccoli, green cabbage, red cabbage.


Earth’s Best Organic Peanut Butter Puffs

(sold at Target & Wegmans)

Disclaimer: This is a snack made for toddlers but I totally steal some when I give them to Gigi. Clean, simple ingredients and helps to introduce one of the main allergens since they are made with real peanuts & peanut flour.

Ingredients: Organic Peanut Butter (organic roasted peanuts), Organic Cornmeal, Organic Vegetable Oil (Organic Sunflower and/or Organic Safflower Oil), Organic Peanut Flour, Sea Salt.

Good Foods Buffalo Dip

I shared this on my instagram (@morganperaino) and had a ton of questions on where to buy it, so wanted to share again. Pair with some veggies for the perfect snack while you are making dinner. Maybe everyone doesn’t do that, but I am love snacking while I cook. The queso flavor is also delicious and less spicy 🌶

Ingredients:Cauliflower, Carrots, Red Bell Peppers, Hot Sauce (Cayenne Red Peppers, Vinegar, Water, Salt, Garlic Powder), Almonds, Almond Butter, Lime Juice, Red Onions, Cilantro, Garlic, Sea Salt, Chia Protein.
